Immigration Work (excluding asylum applications)

Our immigration practice predominantly concerns providing immigration services to businesses (e.g. applications for sponsor licences and certificates of sponsorship). However, we do also provide immigration support to individuals in respect of the following:

  • Applications for naturalisation or registration under the British Nationality Act 1981
  • Applications on behalf of European Economic Area (EEA) nations and their family members under the applicable EEA Regulations or Immigration Rules, including applications for permanent residence, residence cards and registration certificates.
  • Individual applications under the Immigration Rules (e.g. applications for work; spouse applications; work experience visas)

Each application is different and the overall cost will depend on multiple factors in particular the specific circumstances, the type of application and the complexity of the issues. Consequently, it is difficult to set out exact pricing without the full information on a matter. However, as a general guidance, we set out some key stages, estimates of costs and time scales below.

Key Stages

Typically all applications will involve the following steps:

  • Considering the documentation and advising on the Immigration Rules
  • Taking instructions and assisting you identify additional supporting evidence (where appropriate)
  • Preparing and submitting the application
  • Advising you on likely timeframes and the outcome of your application

Typical costs and basis for pricing:

  • how many supporting documents/witnesses there are;
  • if documents needs to be translated;
  • any previous adverse immigration history;
  • criminal convictions;
  • whether third party reports are required;
  • whether it is a fast tracked/premium application;
  • whether any appeal is required to be lodged.

Further, if the UKVI raises further enquiries regarding your application then we reserve the right to make additional charges, based on our hourly rates above, in respect of any additional work we undertake on your behalf.

We would recommend you contact a member of the team to obtain a fee estimate in light of the specific facts of your individual case.

Disbursements
We will charge you “Disbursements” in addition to our hourly charges for conducting the matter. Disbursements are costs that we need to pay a third party e.g. interpreters fees (these can range from approximately £55 plus VAT per translation); Home Office application fees. We will inform you of these costs before incurring them. Where possible Square One Law will deal with these payments on your behalf to ensure the matter proceeds smoothly but there may be occasion you have to pay such sums directly to the Home Office as part of the application process.

The Home Office’s current application fees can be found on the UKVI website.

Time scales
We will normally be able to submit an application within 10 -14 days of you instructing us, subject you being able to provide all of the necessary supporting evidence. We would let you know at the earliest opportunity if it was likely to take any longer than this.

We are unable to guarantee how long the Home Office will take to process your application. Read the current processing times here.
