Future Homes Alliance announces new sustainable city centre development

Future Homes Alliance recently announced its new sustainable housing development of 66 houses on the Newcastle Helix site on Buckingham Street, Newcastle city centre.

Square One Law client, Future Homes Alliance (FHA) is a Community Interest Company formed by Newcastle University, Ryder Architecture, Zero Carbon Futures, the Elders Council, the Sustainable Communities Initiative, and the Innovation Super Network. The FHA is working in partnership with Newcastle City Council and its development agent Karbon Homes.

The project involves developing three buildings, each with six to eight storeys, and the concept involves construction using modular steel facades, with communal landscaping and green roofs.
The partners have been working together for over two years now, developing a substantial base of research led by an extensive period of consultation with the local community, to agree proposals ready to be presented for consideration by city planners. The plans have now been agreed by Newcastle Helix board and Future Homes Alliance and have been submitted to Newcastle City Council.

Anne Moyle, CEO of Future Homes Alliance said “The team at Square One Law have invested in understanding our vision for the FHA project which in turn, has meant their ongoing support and guidance has been excellent.”

Gill Hall, managing partner at Square One Law commented, “It has been a pleasure working with Anne and the team and we are delighted to see the proposal of a versatile sustainable housing scheme coming to fruition, tackling current and future housing issues in the aim to make housing adaptable to our changing lives as well as inexpensive to run.”
